My Dad is the type of guy who doesn’t like knick knack gifts, or having “stuff” in general. He is a man of adventure and experiences. So when Father’s day or his birthday come around he is typically the hardest person I have to buy for. I am sure you all have someone in your family that fits in this category. About 3 weeks before my Dad’s birthday I saw one of those annoying Facebook ads pop up about magnet fishing. The guy throws a magnet into the water and pulls up someone else’s trash / metal junk.
Me: “What on Earth is this nonsense?”
Also Me: “I gotta have it!”

I knew this would be the perfect gift for my Dad. We have been metal detecting on the beach so many times and we are so happy to find someone else’s trash. It’s like a treasure hunt full of surprises! Much to my surprise magnet fishing is not new or one mans after thought. This is a big thing that people do. I have no idea how I have never heard of it! You can get all kinds of different magnet sizes for the types of items you are “fishing” for, fancy gloves, different kind of line. It’s a big thing.
I looked at a lot of reviews and ended up landing on buying the King Kong Magnetics Fishing Magnet Kit. It had the ability to pull up something 400lbs! I mean.. That’s assuming that I personally could pull up something 400lbs lol, which I can’t.
After I gave it to him, we couldn’t wait to take it out and give it a throw! Our first destination was a local park that had a boat ramp. There is some pretty good traffic there and the dock extends into the water far enough to throw it into the deep. Our second destination was another local boat ramp. I think throwing it places that are most likely to have people accidently dropping things is the best place to go.
It didn’t take long for our first find! A lot of it comes out looking pretty nasty – but once washed off a little, it’s perfect treasure!
Here are all of our finds for the day:
· A pair of plyers
· A box knife
· Fly fishing lure
· Piece of a boat anchor
