This Hagood family is a party of 5, with a passion for being outdoors. With 3 kids, who wouldn’t want to be outside? Give me spppaccceeee, tiny humans!

In 2019 we searched high and low for our forever home and had some pretty simple demands.

-5 acres of useable land, able to handle a garden
-Fenced in for our furbabies
-Enough room / living space for 3 tiny humans
-Privacy from neighboors & roads
-Close to family
-Not ugly

Easy peasy, right? Not exactly… Just like many others experience, the buying process was stressful and had us worrying if we were being super unreasonable. We had our sweet realtor running us around to many different places that seemed to be close to our needs but just were not hitting the spot. Lucky for us, she was fantastic and had a lot of patience (if you are in the Brevard, Florida vacinity- use her! Dominique Spaur – Real Living Mutter Real Estate Group)!

She eventually brought us back to a home that she sent us the details on about a month before. Of course the first time she sent it – we immediately said no just because it didn’t have 5 acres. You know because we were stubborn and knew exactly what we wanted and were not going to settle, just like every other difficult homebuyer. I didn’t even realize it was the same home when we got there to do a walk through. It was amazing. Checked off all of the items on our list except for the 5 acres. This one had 1.5 acres which seemed like an impossible compromise. Well reality is unless we were willing to spend about 100K more than we weren’t getting more than 2 acres in the area we targeted. When we finally got there- we were amazed by how much room 1.5 acres really is!

This home was previously owned by a couple who loved to garden and were super handy to make the process easy for us. The huge garden area had irrigation wells already set up to cover the area (this means free water), 4 large raised garden beds ready to be planted, and a shed right near the garden area.

One of the coolest features of the home were all of the plants that already existed:
2 Fig trees
2 Avacado trees
3 Orange trees
1 Tangerine tree
2 Grapefruit trees
1 Lemon tree
4 Crepe myrtle trees
2 Bougainvillea bushes
Large fire bushes (that had hummingbirds already visiting)
Rose bushes
Huge muscadine vines along a large trellis
Golden Queen Pothos vines
Large jasmine vine along the front fence
And a giant 45 year old Stag Horn Fern!
The boarder of the yard had larger trees – Pine, Oak, and Magnolia that added to the privacy.

Let’s be honest- we really bought the house for the yard.. even though the house itself exceeded all of our expectations in so many ways, it was the amazing potential of the plants and outdoors that stole our hearts. Within a year we had our personal garden planted, expanded, and already enjoying all of the fruits of those beautiful citrus trees. Yummm!

It didn’t take long before we started realizing this could be a lifestyle AND business that would take us away from the stress of a 9 to 5. Fast forward to January 2020 where Derrick took the first large leap in our journey (and his personal journey to better mental health) by leaving the corporate world and dedicating his time to our new business of propagating plants. We have many ideas of how this business can evolve but right now the goal is to clone the beauties that we already have within our reach. Currently we are up to 700+ plants already growing.

I cannot wait to see where this new journey takes us, and plan to share it with you all through this blog! I hope to look back at this original post and smile at how this new life started.

Stay tuned for a tour of our first round of plants in our garden!
